The best gift!
The agony, the anguish!
This happens every year at this time, what do we buy our loved ones as a
gift?
It needs to be special, personal, look expense and yet be affordable. A seeminglly impossible combination of requirements.
There is a secret!
This is so simple, yet most of us don’t take the time to learn it or completely understand it. Some of us that do, never implement it, because it seems too simple, so we disregard it. Others know it, yet just don’t believe it. And then there are those that merely could not be bothered to implement it.
How do I know this?
I have done all of those personally at some stage. You see we all know things, but don’t do them. That is really not knowing them at all. If you really know something, you understand it and implement it.
So, don’t just read about this, actually do it. Those of you that are doing it, will agree that it is the most welcome gift you can ever give.
When my children were younger, before they had money to buy me expensive gifts (hey they still don’t do that), they always gave me something for special occasions in my life, you know, birthdays and christmas. Looking back over the years, some of those gifts I have still got, and some have been long forgotten. The ones still with me, are the ones that they made or modified themselves. Not the tie or socks that they bought me, but a coffee mug with their face on it, a card handrawn with
their new crayons…Those are the things I still cherish.
You need to understand something. Listen up, this is important. Most of the gifts you buy for others, are things that they are in a financial situation to buy themselves. Now I know this is not always the case, but it holds true more often than not. So by buying them a gift, very often they receive something they do not really want ( else they would have bought it for themselves) and they now feel obligated to return the favor. This makes gift giving at christmas much more meaningful to the stores selling the gifts than the gift givers.
How do you overcome this?
Remember the old adage it’s the thought that counts, well it’s true – but, it must be the right thought. The thought needs to establish what that person would most appreciate from you.
Nine times o t of ten, its more of what makes you special to them. Read that again. In other words, the most precious gift that you can give, is more of you!
The special time you spend together, the way you interact in certain situations, the way you share things together, can all be gifts.
An idea, give her a bottle of her favorite massage oil, with a coupon entitling her for your services for one hour massaging it in for her. Buy him a new laptop, with a preloaded screensaver of you standing next to a picture of his dream car. (I snuck that one in as a hint).
Ok I think you get the message. Let your creative thoughts flow, and you will find a way of combining some of you with a bought gift.
Give the present of you, make it loving, caring and fun. It will be the best gift you can give or receive.

on loving
