New years resolutions.
Why am I writing about new years’ resolutions now, well into the new year?
Because for many people, they have already broken them by this time. I kid you not. A lot of resolutions are made when people are in a party or holiday mood. A few days thereafter reality sets in. They go back to work, living their same humdrum existances, getting caught up in the same bad habits they were trying to break when in the jovial holiday mood.
Realisation: Resolutions need to be practical to have any chance of survival.
There are reasons you are doing what you are doing now. Reasons promoted by the circumstances in your life. Unless you take those into account, you don’t have a snowballs’ chance in h*ll to adopt and sustain new habits. If your resolution conflicts with an everyday activity that you must do, you will face a challenge.
The question is can the activity be modified in such a way as to work together with your resolution, or not. If not, you are better off finding a more suitable resolution.
The answer: The best type of resolutions:
These are activities, that have an immediate pleasure attached to them in some way. For example, if you decide to lose weight, don’t think of all the good tasting food you will have to forego.Think of how great you will look in that bodyhugging dress, eating an apple, instead of a piece of cake. Yeh, I know it sounds simple and stupid, but if you can combine these in one mental picture, you will be amazed at the effectiveness. Use your imagination, to come up with other creative mental combination pictures.
Now take it a step further, see yourself looking good in that dress (eating your tasty fresh apple of course), being escorted by that handsome hunk, being invited to a party by the “beautiful people” or even being stalked by the paparrazi. You get the picture (pun intended)!
The Recipe: Workable resolutions are not difficult to achieve, if you follow this simple plan:
- They must not conflict with reality and things you cannot change.
2. They should be subtle, so as to not trigger your inbuilt defence
3. They should combine an instantaneous pleasure with an anticipated
4. They should be vivid, exciting mental images that you feel great about.
Sticking to those rules, will make your new years, or any other resolution a lot
more likely to work.
Here is The Ultimate Trick.
Do the new thing consistently for a period of at least 21 days consecutively. This forms a habit, and its much more likely to stick.
Adapt to your lovelife: Do a new loving or caring thing daily, and watch your relationship transform to a higher level within 3 weeks.
Try it, you have nothing to loose.
keep on loving
My computer drove me
Joke of the week:
There are three engineers in a car; an electrical engineer, a chemical
engineer and a Microsoft engineer.
the car just stops by the side of the road, and the three engineers
look at each other wondering what could be wrong.
electrical engineer suggests stripping down the electronics of the car
and trying to trace where a fault might have occurred.
chemical engineeer, not knowing much about cars, suggests that maybe
the fuel is becoming emulsified and getting blocked somewhere.
the Microsoft engineer, not knowing much about anything, comes up with
a suggestion, “Why don`t we close all the windows, get out, get back
in, open the windows again, and maybe it`ll work !?”
